Through Dec 31, 2016, you can get up t0 50% discount on Starpoints purchases of 5,000 points or more. Your account needs to be at least 14 days old to be eligible for points purchase.
Each member receives a targeted offer with a discount anywhere between 25-50%. If you are targeted for the 50% discount offer, you get 30,000 Starpoints for $525. This equates to 1.75 cent/point.
You can buy a maximum of 30,000 points per calendar year. Starpoints are arguably the best currency in Miles & Points due to its wide array of uses.
Is this a good deal?
You get 25,000 miles, when you transfer 20,000 Starpoints to a variety of frequent flyer programs, including AAdvantage, Singapore Airlines, Etihad, Alaska Airlines, Japan Airlines etc.. Whether you got a good deal or great deal depends on the offer you were targeted for.
If you got the 50% discount offer, you could buy airline miles for 1.4 cents a piece, which is a great price. In the past, Starwood ran several promotions for Starpoints purchase- but never higher than 35% discount
