There is no immediate change to the SPG or Marriott Rewards Members in the immediate future.

A Starwood elite would be concerned about the future state of the reward program, as they may get reduced benefits. Most likely, Marriott Rewards would be the prevailing program due to the size of membership base (54 Million members vs 21 Million members)

Marriott credit cards are issued by Chase and Starwood credit cards are issued by American Express. It could very well be possible that the Starwood Credit cards by Amex may no longer be available after the merger.

While we wait to know more about the future state of co-branded cards, you may consider getting these credit cards and accumulate points.
