Through March 3,2015, AAdvantage and US airways Dividend Miles are offering up to 30,000 bonus miles when you buy AAdvantage miles for yourself or gift miles to a friend or loved one. Plus, only through February 9, there is also an additional 10% off the mileage price.
As you might already know, American Airlines and US Airways are going though the merger, and as expected the promotion offered by both programs are identical.
Regular price of a mile is .0295 cents (approximately 3 cents) and can be purchased in increments of 1,000. you will also pay federal excise tax of 7.5% and $30 processing fee.
If you choose to maximize this promotion by buying 100,000 miles, you would get a total of 130,000 miles (100,000 purchased miles + 30,000 bonus miles) and it would cost $2,884.13. which is equivalent to 2.2 cents/mile.
This price is same for AAdvantage and US Airways Dividend Miles.
Is this is a good deal?
In the past there are much better promotions, US Airways used to offer 100% bonus. It is not recommended to buy miles, unless there is a specific redemption or award in mind.
This promotion may be useful to top-up your accounts, if you are short of miles for a redemption.
If you generally buy business tickets with money, you may be able to save money if you can find the business class award available and a little flexible. However, there is an opportunity cost. If you buy revenue ticket, you can earn miles and tier status and potentially more miles with promotions.
You can redeem US Airways dividend miles and AAdvantage miles for awards with any Oneworld carriers. Business class fare for a round trip from Los Angeles to Chennai is approximately $6,323. Assuming you can find business class awards for that date, you can get the same ticket for approximately $3,000 (including awards taxes and fees), if you participate in the buy miles promotions.
Through March 03,2015, AAdvantage and Dividend miles are offering up to 30,000 bonus miles and an additional 10% discount if you purchase before February 09th, 2015.
This promotion may be useful to top-up your account if you are short of miles for a redemption.
Right now, there are two great credit card offers to earn up to 100,000 AAdvantage miles.
