Do You Know How To Request “Best Rate Guarantee” With The Hotel Chains


Do you know that you can further save on your paid stays with the “Best Rate Guarantee” offered by hotel chains.

For a little background, hotel chains (Marriott, IHG, Hyatt, Starwood, Hilton etc..) would like you to book with them directly, rather than through a 3rd party site like Orbitz.. to minimize the commissions to be paid.

Chain hotels promises best rate and if you find a lower rate at a third party website, each hotel chain will compensate you in some way. In this post, we will cover the process, rules for the best rate guarantee across all the major chains.

 

General Rules:

Irrespective of the hotel chain, following rules are common.

  • Best Rate Guarantee cannot be applied to rates offered from opaque/auction sites (Priceline, Hotwire)
  • Room type, dates, number of guests must be same
  • Difference in rates due to the rounding, currency fluctuations are not accepted
  • Corporate rates, government rates are not eligible.

 

Hyatt:

When you book at Hyatt.com, you can take advantage of the Hyatt “Best Rate Guarantee” if you find a lower qualifying rate published on another site.

You need to submit your claim online. If your claim is approved, Hyatt will match the rate and offer an additional 20% discount for the entire stay.

 

Starwood Preferred Guest:

If you find a lower rate for a Starwood hotel at a non-Starwoood website or mobile app, Starwood will match the price and also offer an addition 20% discount on the competing rate per room per night or 2,000 Starpoints for the entire stay.

You need to submit your claim online within 24 hours after making a confirmed reservation and atleast 24 hours (48 hours for non-English Starwood Websites) before the standard check-in time at the applicable Starwood Hotel or SPG Partner Hotel

Marriott:

If within 24 hours of making a reservation at a Marriott hotel through Marriott.com or mobile app, you find a lower rate for the same hotel, same room type and same dates. You can submit a qualified guarantee form, and if approved, Marriott will match the rate and give an additional 25% discount on the room

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG):

If within 24 hours of making a reservation at an IHG hotel through IHG.com, you find a lower rate for the same hotel, same room type and same dates. You can submit a online claim form,and if approved, IHG will provide your first night’s room price free and match the lower average nightly room price found for that stay for the rest of the nights of that stay.

Competing site must bill in the same currency as the hotel.

Hilton:

If within 24 hours of making a reservation at a Hilton hotel through an official Hilton channel, and you find a lower rate for the same hotel, same room type and same dates. You can submit a online claim form,and if approved, Hilton will match the rate and give a $50 credit.

If your claim is approved:

  • For Hotels outside the USA, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, we will adjust your bill by US $50 (or local currency equivalent).
  • For Hotels inside the USA, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, we will give you a US $50 American Express Gift Check. The Gift Check will be sent to you the next business day after your stay, as reserved, is completed.

 

You must submit your claim within 24 hours of making the reservation and at least 24 hours before your arrival

Club Carlson:

If you find a lower publicly available rate on another website within 24 hours of booking your hotel room on clubcarlson.com and at least 48 hours prior to your arrival date, for the same hotel, date(s), room type, number of guests, and with the same rate terms or restrictions, You can submit a online claim form.

Club Carlson Customer Care will verify the rate meets all of the Best Rates Guarantee terms and conditions and contact you via email. Once confirmed you will receive the lower rate and we will discount that rate by 25%.

Conclusion:

Most chain hotels guarantees best rate, when booked directly with them.  If you find a lower price at a third party website, you will get the lower lower price along with something else (If terms & conditions are met)

Hyatt: You will get the lower rate and an additional 20% discount on the lower rate

Starwood Preferred Guest: You will get the lower rate and an additional 20% discount on the lower rate or 2,000 Starpoints per night

Marriott: You will get the lower rate and an additional 25% discount on the lower rate

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG): IHG will give the first night room at free of charge and match the lower rate for the rest of the stay.

Hilton: You will get the lower rate and an additional $50 credit

Club Carlson: You will get the lower rate and an additional 25% discount on the lower rate
