Changes to SPG Rewards program in 2015: Good for touring in India


It is that time of the year, many frequent travel and loyalty programs announce changes to the programs. Earlier, we learned about the upcoming changes to Marriott Rewards program.

Starwood also has announced changes to its loyality program “Starwood Preferred Guest” effective March 10, 2015. You can book award nights under the current categories until March 09, 2015.

What are the changes?

If you are here in US for short term, you should invest in “Starwood Preferred Guest” rewards program because many Starwood hotels in India are moving down in Category.

Starwood has 65 properties in India and most of them are new and includes 11 Luxury collection hotels.

Conclusion:

Starwood preferred guest rewards is changing categories for about  20% of its portfolio. 130 hotels are moving up in category and 138 hotels are moving down in category.

If you plan on touring India, these changes are good as there are many properties that are going down in category.
