50,000 AA miles for opening a new Citigold checking account

Citibank has increased the signup bonus for opening a Citigold checking account, You can get 50,000 AA miles for opening a new Citigold checking account.  In the past we have seen 30,000 AA Miles offer, but it got better this time.

Through Dec 31, 2015,  Citibank is offering 50,000 AAdvantage miles when you open a new Citigold checking account and complete the below requirements. This is a great way to boost your AAdvantage mileage balance without a credit card and hard inquiry.

Get 30,000 AA Miles for a new Citigold Checking account

Here are the details

Promo Code: 42ERCWNQU6

No Direct deposit required

Citigold checking account comes with a monthly fee of $30. (Waived for the first 2 months)

Should apply before Dec 31, 2015.

No hard inquiry on your credit report

If you hold a  Citi/ AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard , you should be able to get this offer, even though it is marketed as a targeted offer to select Citi/ AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard card holders without a Citi checking account.

If you do not have the card, you may want to get the Citi/ AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard card and then sign up for Checking account to get a total of 100,000 AA miles (50,000 miles for Credit sign up and 50,000 Citi gold checking account).

Within 60 days, complete a purchase of $1,000 or more with your Citigold Debit card and perform 1 or more bill payments for 2 consecutive calendar months to a non-Citi account (paying your Citi credit card will not count towards the promotion)

Historically, Loading Serve or REDcard  with the debit card counted towards the Debit Card purchase requirements.

Things you should know:

  • 50,000 bonus miles will post within 90 days from the end of the statement period in which you complete all offer requirements, which means it can be 5 months from the date account is opened.

  • You may end up paying account maintenance fee of $30/month for 3 months ($90 total) before you get the 50,000 A miles.

  • It would be better to open this in a branch, as the banker will usually help you with any delay in getting miles.

  • I would recommend opening the account during the second half of the month.  You can complete the bill pay requirements in Oct 2015 and Nov 2015 and $1,000 debit card purchases by second week of  Nov 2015. This means you have completed the requirements within a month of opening the account.

  • As soon as you complete the requirements, contact the banker who helped you open the account and notify that you finished the requirements.

  • Citi also offers ThankYou points for Citigold accounts, you could earn up to 1600 points per month. Set up Auto Save and set up a direct deposit if possible.

  • As soon as you get the miles in your AAdvantage account, Call Citi and request a downgrade of your account to Basic Banking (fees can be avoided with a direct deposit) or cancel the account.

  • Another advantage of the going for the Citigold relationship – you can get a lower annual fee of $350 for Citi Prestige card.

Through 12/31/2015, Citi is offering 50,000 AA miles for opening a new Citigold checking account. Citigold checking account is the premium banking product offered by Citi and comes with several benefits. This promotion equates to 50,000 AA miles for $90, which is an excellent value.

To qualify for this promotion, you need to open your account before Dec 31,2015 and must be a Citi/ AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard holder.

I strongly recommend against opening in branch. It is widely known that you can fund these bank accounts with Barclays cards and they go through as purchases. You will not have the option to fund the account via credit card if you sign up in a branch. A potential loss of tens of thousands of miles/points.

I am having trouble finding any reference of the 50K miles on the site. Can you tell where I can find this, where to enter the promo code, or if it even shows up at all?

It would be $60 for 50,000 miles right? Going by your scenario if my statement runs from say Oct 20 – Nov 19 and I finish my spend requirements within the first billing cycle, the miles should post Feb 19 (90 days.)
BC ending on Nov 19 – Free
BC ending on Dec 19 – Free
    BC ending on Jan 19 – $30
    BC ending on Feb 19 – $30
    Total cost = $60

In my experience, Citi statement period matches with the calendar month.

Having said that, I got my miles with one month’s fee. I am making sure that we are prepared for the worst case scenario or a delay.

Must you have the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard? I have the Citi Prestige, wondering if the promotion is still valid.

Closed my Citi Basic Checking Account last week. Have 2 personal Citi Credit Cards and 1 business Credit card
Applied online at Citi using the promo code for the CitiGold account.
Signed up for a new user-id and password for linking the account.
Faxed the Citibank Online Credit/ Debit Card Deposit Form in the morning at 10 am. Trying to use CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select Card for 15k $. Had called them earlier and make Cash Advance limit to Zero
Called Citibank at 1-800-321-2484 and gave SS # and they gave me the File Number for my application and confirmed that the application is in progress
The lady said that the credit card processing will take place in the afternoon and if there are any issues they will let me know
I asked if the credit card payment will be processed as a Cash Advance – She said that if the card is a Citi Card it will be processed as a Cash Advance, else if it is from some other bank it will be processed as a Purchase.
I have my Cash Advance as Zero and this is a Citi AAdvantage Platinum Executive Business Credit Card. So I will wait and see what happens. What i know from the above comments is that people have been able to process the same or similar Citi cards for advance and it was not a cash advance.
I will update once I see the transaction on my Citi Card. Or if they call back that the transaction did not go through.

Can you do an Amex credit card charge to open the account and get Amex points? Obviously no cash advance for Amex

One more question. Can you or anyone confirm they got AA miles from funding the checking account with their AA Advantage Citibank credit card? I thought I read that to fund the checking account with a credit card you needed to NOT use a Citibank credit card.
